We want to remind local employers that members of the Sullivan County business community have referred a number of employees have to us to increase performance at work.

One-to-one tutoring has been very effective with these employees who have as a result improved their literacy skills and productivity at work

All children grades K-3 are invited.
An adult must accompany the children and stay during the event.
Here Are The Dates For Next Tutor Training:


Thursdays: May 9th, May 16th, May 23th, May 30th from 5:30 p.m.- 8:30 p.m. at the Literacy Center on 63 North Street in Monticello.


This training encompasses all 6 Thursdays (18) hours of training.  Please consider giving the gift of literacy.
Reading & Writing Is Key to a Better Life in Sullivan County!


Our mission at Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County (LVSC) is to provide adults with the opportunity to improve their reading and writing skills to obtain a better quality of life.
It is the goal of Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County to halt the rising tide of illiteracy in Sullivan County.
Through a trained corps of volunteer tutors, LVSC fosters and enhances family literacy, assists adults functioning at low levels of literacy, and promotes proficiency in English as a second language.
The Volunteers at LVSC provide instruction in basic literacy, English as a Second Language, pre-GED, and GED.
Volunteer tutors are trained and matched one-to-one with adult students.

News From Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County:

The Kristina Kares Fundraiser at the Villa Roma was held on April 13th and was extremely successful. Literacy Volunteers of Sullivan County and Wayne County in Pennsylvania are very grateful to all who attended and contributed time and money to this fundraiser.

Our Student-Tutor-Volunteer Recognition Dinner is planned for June.  All our volunteer tutors, students and bookstore volunteers are recognized at this event.  This will be our 15th Recognition Dinner and it is a wonderful way to acknowledge everyone who is part of the Literacy Volunteers’ family.

Our new Tutor Training ends May 30th and Literacy Volunteers will have 18 new tutors who will be matched with adult students who want to improve their reading, writing, speaking, math or computer skills!
