Lapolla Little League 50th Anniversary

by Legislator John G. Testa

On Saturday April 20, 2013 the Peekskill Lapolla Little League held its 50th Opening Day Ceremony.

I was honored to be there to recognize the achievement as County Legislator, but more importantly as a former player, coach, manager, umpire and volunteer.

I began as a player just two years after the league was established and it was a thrill to see many former players of my era attend the ceremony. Many of those in attendance were there to also remember and celebrate their dads who were the founders of the league.

It was great to once again see Gloria Ward who, along with her husband Homer, helped found the league. Homer was also my manager on the 1970 DPW team that won the Peekskill City Championship.
