ALBANY, NY… NYGOP Chair Ed Cox today released the following statement on the passing of Irene R. Halligan:
“Republicans and Democrats alike mourn the passing of one of New York’s most elegant servants, Irene R. Halligan. As Commissioner of the New York City Commission for the United Nations, Consular Corps and Protocol, Irene represented New York with extraordinary dignity and poise during some of its most challenging days, escorting heads of state, prime ministers, and other world leaders to the shattered remnants of the Twin Tower buildings.
Irene Halligan was a lifelong New Yorker who gave mightily throughout her life to causes and charities that helped this state, particularly its least advantaged children.  She was a proud and stalwart Republican who reflected the best traditions our party. We will miss her deeply.”

A brief biography of Irene R. Halligan is available here.
