|ALBANY, NY… Sean Eldridge is going shopping. He and his husband just spent $2,000,000 on a new home, dubbed a “Modern Masterpiece in the Catskills.”
If you’re going to try to buy a Congressional District, you might as well do it in style.
Born in Canada and raised in Ohio, 26-year-old Eldridge decided that he wanted to establish roots in New York’s 19th District just in time to run against the Hudson Valley’s Republican representative Chris Gibson.
“It’s ironic that someone who claims to want to end the influence of money in politics finds nothing wrong with spending $2,000,000 to establish residency just to run for office,” said NYGOP Communications Director David Laska.
Eldridge has also donated $150,000 to a SuperPac that helped get Democratic candidates elected and pitched in $30,000 to the Democratic National Committee.
But what’s a couple of million to get to Congress when he has close to $700 million at his disposal?
“Sean Eldridge seems to be under the impression that he can buy the 19th District of New York,” said NRCC Spokesman Ian Prior. “Well, money may buy him a lot of things, but it can’t buy him the kind of homegrown and bipartisan leadership that the 19 District already has in Congressman Chris Gibson.”
