ASSEMBLYMAN STEVE KATZ CONTINUES FIGHT

TO PROTECT SECOND AMENDMENT RIGHTS

At a rally held this afternoon outside the State Capitol, Assemblyman Steve Katz (R,C,I-Yorktown) delivered another speech against the gun legislation passed earlier this legislative session. He referred to Gov. Cuomo’s gun legislation as an “obnoxious” law.
“You [Gov.Cuomo] take away our liberty with a law like this because you have the misguided, egotistic notion that being first in the nation for stricter gun control will help make you president. The truth is that the other states are ridiculing him and our state for passing so thoughtless and irresponsible a law in a New York minute. This bill does nothing to remove illegal guns from criminals, which is the real problem,” Katz said. “While the governor trumps up a fake emergency for his own political advantage, let me remind him of some real emergencies our state faces – we are the least business-friendly state in the U.S. and our taxes are among the highest in the nation.”

The rally was organized by the group Turn Albany Upside Down.   The protesters were given a list of how their legislators voted on the bill in an effort to lobby the members’ offices before and after the rally.
