Day 5: Will Sean Patrick Maloney Call On Senate Democrats To Pass A Budget?

After Yet Another Day Of Silence, It’s Time For Maloney To Tell Harry Reid “No Budget, No Pay”

WASHINGTON – Last week, House Republicans introduced their plan to withhold pay from members of Congress unless they pass a budget—something Senate Democrats haven’t done in almost four years.

It’s simple. If Harry Reid and Senate Democrats won’t do their jobs, they shouldn’t get paid. The National Republican Congressional Committee is calling on Sean Patrick Maloney to sign our petition telling Senate Democrats to pass a budget, or see their pay withheld. He can sign it here:

“Sean Patrick Maloney has been silent for long enough,” said NRCC Communications Director Andrea Bozek. “It’s time Maloney stand up and tell his liberal colleagues in the Senate to finally do their job and pass a budget.”

Senate Democrats Last Passed A Budget On April 29, 2009. “The Senate last passed a traditional budget on April 29, 2009, and lawmakers have relied on short-term stopgap measures to fund the federal government’s operations since the measure expired.” (Chris Moody, “House Republicans To Senate Democrats: Pass A Budget And We’ll Increase The Debt Limit,” Yahoo News, 1/18/13)

On Sunday, Senator Chuck Schumer Insisted The Senate Will Finally Pass A Budget This Year. “SCHUMER: In our budget that we will pass, we will have tax reform, which many of my Republican colleagues like. But it’s going to include revenues.” (NBC’s “Meet The Press,” 1/20/13)
