Bazzo Says: It Is Truly A Most Wonderful Time Of Year

TITLE:  It Is Truly A Most Wonderful Time Of Year
It is that time.  Hopes, dreams become actions as people listen to their better angels.  Kindness, courtesy, manners, surface to refute the cynics view that they are dead.  People who you would never think of go that extra mile, just read last weeks editorial written by this paper’s publisher regarding last minute production problems.  Yeah, it is that time, it is Christmas.
Question:  Would these same thing happen if it were not “that time of year”?  Answer: yes, it’s just that we notice it more now.  How do I know, look at all the good deeds that people do when disaster strike during other times of the year.  People open their hearts and wallets in abundance.  Good people will do good things, it matters not when duty calls.
I hang around with politicians and cops.  This feeds a cynicism that must be fought every day.  People say I write angry.  It is true.  I look around the world I inhabit and I get angry.  Then I write.  It is a cathartic  experience.  It keep the evil gene at bay.   It is a fight every day not to become what it is I despise the most.
This year started like most, uneventful.  Business struggled, but survived.  The business started with three cars, now we are down to two.  This is because on  November 3, 2012, at 5 A.M. I hit a deer on the Taconic Parkway between Rt. 202 and 132.  It is true, most accident happen a mile from home.  I should have moved.  The car died, I walked away with a cracked rib.  In many ways as bad a situation as it is, it could have been worse.  I could have had a passenger at the time, or even have hit another car.  Truly, God watched over me that morning.   So the year ends with a more difficult struggle.  Trying to find another mini-van at a reasonable price.  In this recession, people are holding on to their cars longer, so as supply and demand dictates, the available stock is limited, hence the prices are higher than normal.  In the end, my partner and I should surmount this obstacle with hopefully a help from our friends and a little patience.  What I know for sure, there will be no help from the government, as they certainly did not build our business.   Truth be told, will all the onerous fees and regulations, the continued licensing of anyone, they have done their best to hurt our business.
Health matter stayed pretty much the same.  I am not twenty anymore, of even thirty, I have to live with that.  What was interesting, when the doctor at the hospital came to tell me I was going home ( after waiting around for seven hours) after the accident, he looked over my tests.  As I said they showed a cracked rib.  He was also looking over my medical history and what ails me after 57 years,  and the fact that I have been smoking since my teen years,  he says I have no right to be as healthy as I am.  The “book” says I should be in worse shape.  His tone did not imply he was happy to tell me this.
I started the year with one publication, ended with another.  My new bosses, Brett Freeman (Publisher) and Bryan Fumagalli (Editor) are wonderful additions to my life.  I started the year with a cable show with one co-host,  Now I have a new show with a new co-host, Domenic Volpe.  You can see this show “THE VOPLE/BAZZO REPORT every Wednesday night at 9:30 P.M. on channel 74.  The December 19th and 26th shows are our Christmas/New Years show with a very special guest, Bruce Apar.  This time of year it is always special to spend some time with friends.
I started the year with one neighbor, ended with another, my brother and his wife.  Being from a small, close family, it is nice to be close again.  My mother started the year living in South Carolina,  ends the year living with us.  It is a time of joy, for after 22 years, we got to spend a Mother’s Day and Thanksgiving together.  We will get to spend a Christmas and New Year’s together. She rides with me three or four times a week and the customers love her.  This year was the 25 anniversary of sharing my life with the same person.  It is a beautiful world.
I will continue to rail and write against the world of politics and its self-serving inhabitants.  Though I would like to close with these closing words, from one of the “codes I live by” “Desiderata “:
“Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars.
You have a right to be here
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
Be at peace with God, whatever you conceive him to be And whatever your labors and aspirations, keep peace in your soul With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world
Be cheerful
Strive to be happy. “
Merry Christmas.  This what I say, what say you?
