Yesterday a mailer was sent out on our behalf that used a quote from the Poughkeepsie Journal that said, “Kieran Michael Lalor is definitely a straight shooter and a refreshing voice on the local political scene.”
The paper’s Executive Editor Stuart Shinske and Community Conversations Editor John Penney contacted us and asked that we tell people the quote was from October 2008. Shinske and Penney also requested that we let people know that the quote came from their endorsement editorial of Congressman John Hall during our 2008 Congressional Campaign.
In addition, Shinske and Penney requested that we not use the Poughkeepsie Journal’s unique font style in future mailings and asked that we refrain from using the quote in future mailings.
We are happy to oblige.
The content of the mailer included the following policy positions:
Kieran Michael Lalor learned how to lead from the front as a Marine Corps Infantryman
Lalor will self-impose these five key reforms and relentlessly champion these reforms until they become law:
Reform # 1 -Term Limits of Four, Two Year Terms and no Lobbying Once Out of Office: Limit lawmakers to four, two year terms and impose a life time ban on lobbying in the state.
Reform #2 -No Pork Barrel Spending: Legitimate local projects that warrant funding by state government should be transparently voted on by the legislature not paid out of taxpayer funded slush funds controlled by individual lawmakers.
Reform # 3 -10% Pay Cut for State Politicians: Albany legislators are in session less than 70 days per year but make a base salary of $79,500 plus many perks. Now they are scheming for a 25% pay hike to be voted on after the election. We already pay our legislators more than any other state.
Reform # 4 – No Perks for Politicians: More than two-thirds of state lawmakers get paid a “leadership” stipend of between $9,000 and $41,500. In addition to the big salary and stipends, legislators get paid $171 per day for every day they are in Albany, whether the legislature is in session or not. Lawmakers who will waste tax dollars on themselves will waste tax dollars in all aspects of government.
Reform # 5 – No Pensions for State Politicians: Lawmaker pensions are not necessary and we can’t afford them. The longer lawmakers stay in office the bigger the pension. Incumbents and career politicians will do almost anything to get reelected, further destroying our states economic viability.
