Albany, NY …October 5, 2012 – Today The New York GOP released the following statement on the jobs numbers:
45 months after the passage of the Obama Stimulus Package, which the president promised would keep unemployment below 8%, unemployment has ostensibly dipped below that threshold.
But the real numbers tell a different story:
Including those who have dropped out of the workforce altogether because they have been unable to find work, the unemployment rate is closer to 11%.
The U6 unemployment rate, which includes part-time workers who desire, but are unable to find full time work, stands at 14.7%, unchanged from the previous month.
The number of people with part-time jobs who want full-time work rose 7.5% to 8.6 million, the most since February 2009.
Our workforce participation rate is 63.6%, the lowest rate since the Carter administration.
As Mitt Romney said, “this is not what a real recovery looks like.”
With 1 in 6 Americans in poverty, Barack Obama cannot run on his economic record.
At Wednesday’s debate, Americans were presented with a clear choice between a candidate with the experience and business acumen to create jobs in America, and a President who looked out of energy and out of ideas.
And one month from tomorrow, he’ll be out of time.
